Praying the Stories of Women
Morning prayer with readings drawn from Wilda Gafney’s A Women’s Lectionary.
What does it look like to tell the good news through the stories of women who are often on the margins of scripture and often set up to represent bad news? How would a lectionary centering women’s stories, chosen with womanist and feminist commitments in mind, frame the presentation of the scriptures for proclamation and teaching?” The scriptures are androcentric, male-focused, as is the lectionary that is dependent upon them. As a result, many congregants know only the biblical men’s stories told in the Sunday lectionary read in their churches. This more expansive, more inclusive lectionary introduces readers and hearers of scripture to “women’s stories” in the scriptures.

Sacred Singing
Our singers meet weekly on a Tuesday afternoon at 2pm with accomplished tenor and choral director Kim Kirkman to practice chants and sacred songs for our contemplative Taize services and other occasions. It’s free! Please come along and join us!

Taizé
A service of contemplative evening prayer with the music of Taize. Running for around 40 minutes, Taize is a restful candle lit service incorporating chants (short pieces of scripture sung meditatively), silence, poetry and simple prayers. There is an emphasis on simplicity and peace. Originating with the monks of an ecumenical community in France, Taize-styled gatherings have spread all over the world. Everyone is welcome at these easy-going services.

Christian Meditation
Meditation has been part of the Christian tradition since the 4th and 5th centuries and recently has been revived as a form of prayer available to everyone. Our groups meet weekly to listen to a teaching related to meditation and to share a time of silence and stillness. We are associated with the World Community of Christian Meditation.

Study Groups
There is always more to understand about our faith, its traditions and expression in our lives. One of the best ways to approach questions of faith is in conversation. Small groups meet seasonally in each of our churches and are a great place to ask questions and make friends.

Cursillo
Cursillo is a movement from the Church that focuses on helping each person to discover themselves, their relationship with Christ and with others. Visit the Cursillo Southern Queensland website.
