Living Waters: A short film event with Horizon Festival

September 1, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Living Waters: A Short Film Event is a celebration of interconnectedness and an exploration of belonging to each other and to the earth.

Living Waters features a selection of short films from across the world and a panel conversation with local filmmaker John Harvey; Anglican Priest, Deb Bird; and international permaculture pioneer, leadership facilitator and author, Robin Clayfield. Curated by Lydia Fairhall.

As part of Living Waters: Short Film Event, we are pleased to be screening Katale (Mudskipper), by local filmmaker John Harvey.

Featuring Bangarra Dance Theatre performers Elma Kris and Waangenga Blanco Katale (Mudskipper) is a joyous slice of magic realism that bursts from the screen with vivid cinematography, enchanting dance sequences and an uplifting connection to Country.

In it, a Torres Strait Islander woman is toiling away at a Brisbane laundromat when she’s visited by a man embodying the spirit of the mudskipper. Co-written by respected Torres Strait Islander leader Walter Waia and winner of Best Australian Short Film at Flickerfest, Katele (Mudskipper) allows the spirit of culture to shine through in a truly celebratory way.

Tickets from $10 available at the Horizon Festival website.
